What Is a VI Peel®?

VI Peel® is a professional chemical peel designed to improve skin tone, texture and clarity through controlled exfoliation and skin renewal.

Unlike a basic superficial peel, VI Peel® is formulated to penetrate to the papillary dermis, helping stimulate fibroblast renewal, collagen production, cellular turnover and balanced pigment regulation.

VI Peel offers several formulations, allowing your treatment to be customized for concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma, post-inflammatory pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and uneven texture.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

VI Peel® may be appropriate for clients looking to improve concerns such as pigmentation, acne, uneven tone, rough texture or visible signs of aging.

Before treatment, your provider will review your health history, current skincare products, medications, skin type and treatment goals to determine whether you are an appropriate candidate. VI's professional protocol specifically includes informed consent, health history, skincare review, physical skin assessment and baseline photographs.

What to Expect

Your appointment begins with a professional skin assessment and consultation to determine the appropriate peel for your skin.

The VI Peel® application itself takes approximately 10 minutes. Most clients experience little discomfort, although mild warmth or tingling may occur during application.

Immediately afterward, your skin may appear slightly tan or orange with a glow. Peeling varies from person to person, but visible peeling is typically most noticeable around days 3–5.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments depends on your skin concerns and treatment goals.

A single VI Peel® can support ongoing skin health and renewal. For corrective treatment, a series of 3 peels may be recommended. More challenging concerns such as melasma or scarring may require a series of 4–6 treatments.

Your personalized treatment plan will be determined during your consultation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does a VI Peel hurt??

VI Peel® is virtually pain-free. You may experience a slight warming or tingling sensation during application. Phenol, one of the ingredients in the peel, has a mild numbing effect that helps make the treatment more comfortable.

When will my skin start peeling?

Peeling varies from person to person, but it is typically most noticeable around days 3–5. Some clients experience light flaking, while others may experience more noticeable sheet peeling. Even if you do not peel heavily, the treatment is still working beneath the surface.

How much downtime should I expect?

VI Peel® has minimal downtime, but visible peeling is typically most noticeable during days 3–5. Immediately after treatment, your skin may appear slightly tan or orange with a glow, and you can generally continue normal daily activities.

Is itching normal after a VI Peel?

Yes. Itching is common, especially on the first night. Use your Post Treatment Repair Cream as directed. An oral antihistamine may be taken if needed. Avoid scratching, picking or pulling at the skin.

Can I work out after my VI Peel?

Avoid intense workouts for the first 72 hours, as excessive heat and sweating may cause unwanted side effects. Light activities such as walking, Pilates and light weights are acceptable. Once most of the peeling is complete, you can resume your regular workouts.

When can I wear makeup?

You will wash your face approximately 4 hours after the peel is applied. Afterward, makeup may be applied before the peeling begins. Once active peeling starts, VI recommends waiting until the peeling process is complete before resuming makeup.

Can I go in the sun after my peel?

Avoid direct and extreme sun exposure for the first 7 days. Apply SPF 50 every morning and wear a hat when outdoors. Normal activities such as running errands, walking or driving are fine when proper sun protection is used.

Is VI Peel safe for darker skin tones?

Yes. VI Peel® is designed to be safe and effective for all skin tones, including skin of color. VI Peel's professional training materials describe it as a corrective peel suitable for Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI.

Can VI Peel help with acne?

Yes. Certain VI Peel® formulations are specifically designed to address acne and acne-prone skin. VI Peel Purify targets active and hormonal acne, excess oil, clogged pores and congestion, while Purify with Precision + Peptides is designed to address active acne along with post-acne pigmentation and textural scarring.

Can teenagers receive a VI Peel?

Yes. Certain VI Peel® treatments may be appropriate for clients 13 years and older. VI Peel Purify, for example, is indicated for ages 13+, while some formulations have different age recommendations. Your provider will determine the appropriate treatment based on age, skin concerns and individual assessment.

How many VI Peels will I need?

The number of treatments depends on your skin concerns and goals. Regular VI Peels can support ongoing skin health, while a series of 3 peels may be recommended for corrective treatment. More challenging concerns, such as melasma or scarring, may benefit from a series of 4–6 peels.

What skincare should I use after my peel?

Follow your VI Peel® post-treatment instructions and use the provided post-peel products as directed. The VI Peel at-home system includes a Gentle Purifying Cleanser, Post Treatment Repair Cream, SPF 50 Daily UV Sunscreen and post-peel treatment towelettes. VI's professional protocol states that no other skincare products should be used during the first 7 days after treatment.
